Kroger to Sell NoCal Ralphs Locations: Report
CINCINNATI -- A Northern California newspaper reported that the Kroger Co., based here, is putting its stores in the region under the Ralphs banner up for sale, in the wake of disappointing sales.
The supermarket giant had not confirmed or denied the reports. Employees in Santa Cruz County told the local Sentinel newspaper that they had been told about the pending sale last week, but the sources offered no further information.
Kroger's third-quarter profits slid 30 percent from the year-ago period, due to sluggish sales and the impact of severe hurricanes over the past two years.
