Casting itself as a champion of consumer choice, Philadelphia-based deli meat supplier Dietz & Watson is slicing into Sarasota, Fla.-based Boar’s Head with a full-bore challenge to discontinue its historical practice of demanding exclusivity as the premium deli brand in supermarket delis.

The new Tony’s Market & Bistro in downtown Denver held a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday for its first location in the city and fourth location. Mayor John Hickenlooper presided over the festivities. In addition to marking the grand opening of the new market, the event kicked off a day of fundraising in recognition of the mayor’s fight to end homelessness.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Makeovers got under way over the weekend in 16 D&W Food Centers, courtesy of their new owner, Spartan Stores based here. It was the end of the road for four other D&W stores, which were permanently closed.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- With its $45 million acquisition of retailer D&W Food Centers set to be complete later this month, Spartan Stores here is already wielding the pruning shears, with closings of four of D&W's 16 stores imminent within a few weeks.
