At a series of Virginia Wine Showcase events sponsored by Southeast regional grocery chain Harris Teeter, representatives from three Old Dominion wineries will teach shoppers about available local wines. The showcases will take place at the Spectrum at Town Center Harris Teeter store in Reston, Va., on Friday, July 8, 2011, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, July 9, 2011, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, July 10, 2011, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Harris Teeter has joined forces with Horton Winery of Gordonsville, Prince Michel Vineyard and Winery of Leon, and Barboursville of the town of the same name to host the tasting events, which aim to customers to the wide range of fine Virginia wines for sales in its stores. Winery reps will be on hand to answer any questions. Among the wines to be sampled are Horton Norton, Horton Niagara, Horton White Chocolate, Rapidan River Peach, Rapidan River Blackberry, Prince Michel Cabernet Franc, Prince Michel Cabernet, Barboursville Octagon Red, Barboursville Pinot Grigio, Barboursville Reserve Viognier and Barboursville Merlot.

Harris Teeter and the winery reps have also collaborated with Boar’s Head to offer appropriate deli meat and cheese pairings. The grocer’s wine consultant, Justin Suskey, will also be in attendance to assist shoppers during the three-day wine event.

In February, Harris Teeter added a wine tasting kiosk to the Spectrum at Town Center location. The pouring system enables shoppers to sample fine wines by the glass before buying them.
