Denver’s Tony’s Market Opens

The new Tony’s Market & Bistro in downtown Denver held a grand opening ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday for its first location in the city and fourth location. Mayor John Hickenlooper presided over the festivities. In addition to marking the grand opening of the new market, the event kicked off a day of fundraising in recognition of the mayor’s fight to end homelessness.

Tony’s Market pledged to donate $10 for every $50 gift certificate purchased at its new store on June 9 to its adopted charity: The Franciscan Friends of the Poor. Rocky Mountain Provisions, Tony’s supplier of Boar’s Head brand products, offered to match the grocer’s donation.

According to Tony Rosacci, founder and president of Tony’s Market, “This location has been in the works for several years, and it’s great to now be part of this urban community.”

As a food retailer, Tony’s Market believes that focusing on hunger is the best way to serve its community. The Franciscan Friends of the Poor feeds Denver’s homeless and low-income families by preparing and serving meals five days a week to anyone in need. It also provides many other services such as outreach food delivery to the elderly, minor medical assistance and other necessities of life.

In addition to weekly deliveries of fresh produce, breads and pastries, prepared meals, cheeses, and canned goods, Tony’s provides the primary protein source for the Franciscan Friends of the Poor, delivering between 175 and 200 pounds of meat per week, or 10,000 pounds annually.

Centennial, Colo.-based Tony’s Market, formally Tony’s Meats, was founded in 1978 by Tony Rosacci and is a locally owned specialty foods market in the Denver metro area. The grocer has four retail locations and a catering division, Tony Rosacci's Fine Catering.
