MINNEAPOLIS -- Kroger, Publix, and 14 other supermarket chains have joined forces with major organic food brands to launch an unprecedented $1 million marketing campaign, called "Go Organic! For Earth Day," this April, designed to drive mainstream consumer awareness, in-store traffic, and sales for organic food.

MINNEAPOLIS - Rainbow Foods begins a new program today to ensure the freshness of baked goods contributed to local charities that help the hungry, according to published reports.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Milwaukee-based Roundy's has reportedly stopped the donation of leftover produce and day-old baked goods from its Rainbow Foods unit to local food shelves here, according to published reports. A source said Roundy's is concerned about the legal liability of donating food that is slightly past its prime. Roundy's was not available for comment yesterday.

MILWAUKEE - Roundy's is rolling out a new policy requiring employees at all of the company's grocery stores to check the identifications of anyone seeking to purchase alcohol or tobacco -- no matter how old the consumer appears.
