What's in a Name? For Roundy's, it's Now 'Supermarkets'

MILWAUKEE -- Roundy's, Inc. today said that its board of directors has approved changing the corporate name to Roundy's Supermarkets, Inc.

"The corporate name change symbolizes the transformation of Roundy's from a long-time wholesale grocery supplier to a premier grocery retailer," said Robert Mariano, chairman and c.e.o. of Roundy's. "The new name will underscore the dynamic change that has taken place in our organization over the past three years, and clearly states our commitment to creating exceptional shopping experiences for our customers."

Since 2002, Roundy's has added 72 stores through new construction and acquisition under the Pick'n Save, Copps Food Centers, and Rainbow Foods banners. In addition, Roundy's has narrowed its wholesale business to select independent retailers, and is optimizing its distribution network to better support its corporately owned and operated stores.

Currently, Roundy's operates 132 retail grocery stores in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. No information was given about when the name change will take place, and calls to Roundy's for further information were not returned by press time.
