Rainbow Foods to Start Donating Baked Goods Again
MINNEAPOLIS - Rainbow Foods begins a new program today to ensure the freshness of baked goods contributed to local charities that help the hungry, according to published reports.
Two weeks ago the Roundy's, Inc.-owed chain temporarily suspended donations of surplus baked goods to food programs, because store officials were worried that the products would be consumed past their freshness dates.
According to Milwaukee-based Roundy's, a new policy at all Rainbow Foods stores features a formal process for registering such contributions. Twin Cities food programs have said the Rainbow Foods had stopped donating produce, as well.
When contacted by Progressive Grocer, Roundy's officials were unavailable for comment.
