COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Nonfoods trade association General Merchandise Distributors Council (GMDC) last week hired Keith G. Wypyszynski as v.p. of business development/chief member officer to lead its efforts in developing and driving new and existing programs that manage and enhance the association's member experience.

SALINAS, Calif. -- On the heels of six new specimens testing positive for the strain of E. coli 0157:H7 bacteria responsible for the recent deadly fresh spinach outbreak, an ad hoc group of produce buyers is calling on three industry associations to work together quickly to develop new, enforceable food safety standards.

PARIS -- The evolution of the value chain will be driven increasingly by a convergence of external forces that can only be addressed collaboratively by the members of that supply chain. That was the conclusion of six months of discussions among manufacturers, retailers, logistics and technology companies, and academics, culminating in the report, "2016: The Future Value Chain, " developed by the Global Commerce Initiative.

Landover, Md. -- Giant Food, LLC here is hosting Pink Ribbon Produce, a fundraiser and education event that unites the retailer, its shoppers and nine produce suppliers to help raise money to combat breast cancer. The program started Oct. 13 and will run through Nov. 19.
