  • NPD Bows New Tracking Service for Supermarket Deli Departments

    The NPD Group is now tracking consumer shopping habits, purchases and perceptions of the supermarket deli department through its new research service, DeliTrack. Primarily geared to manufacturers and retailers, DeliTrack aims to deliver consumer insights on key purchase measures, attitudes, and needs related to deli and prepackaged lunchmeat, cheese and prepared food purchases from retailers.

  • Bulk Foods Help Consumers Stretch Food Bucks: Study

    A recent study conducted by the Bulk Is Green Council confirms what the Little Rock, Ark.-based advocacy group is seeking to advance with consumers: that retail prices of bulk foods vs. their packaged counterparts are an average of 35 percent lower. Indeed, bulk foods were lower for all of the 16 foods compared, with savings ranging from 3 percent to 96 percent. Additionally, the majority of bulk foods compared in the study were organic while their packaged counterparts were often not.

  • Guiding Stars Gets Tweaked

    The Guiding Stars store-wide nutrition navigation system has made minor revisions to its evidence-based proprietary algorithm, which is regularly reviewed by the Guiding Stars Scientific Advisory Panel and amended as necessary, based on changes in dietary guidelines, nutrition policy and/or new scientific evidence that arises. The changes were made last month, with store shelf tags reflecting the revised star ratings in late June.
