Rice Epicurean Markets to Upgrade Online Shopping Service

HOUSTON, Texas -- Upscale food retailer Rice Epicurean Markets here said yesterday it will upgrade its online home and office food shopping service, now in its fourth year, beginning Jan. 24. The retailer plans to make all in-store products available on the enhanced Web site, http://www.riceepicurean.com.

The retailer said the new Web site will perform more like a virtual shopping cart, in which shoppers will be able to organize their shopping picks by category; change weights, amounts, and contents of the cart up to four hours before delivery; be alerted to sale items; and select better determine delivery times.

Rice Epicurean Markets's online shopping program has grown steadily since it began four years ago, according to the company. Customers can have products delivered to their home or office in selected ZIP code areas, mostly in Southwest Houston, or they can opt for pickup service at one of the five Rice Epicurean Markets in Houston.

Grocery prices are the same as in the store, according to the company. Also like the store, the online selection includes everything from frozen foods, wines, and canned goods, to fresh vegetables, meats, and deli items. Payment can be made with a Rice Epicurean Markets personal charge account or any major credit card.

Same-day delivery is available Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. if the order is placed by 9 a.m. Otherwise, delivery is available from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. if the order is placed by 9 p.m. the previous day.

Rice Epicurean Markets claims to be the only supermarket chain in Houston offering this service. The retailer is wholly owned by the founding family members who remain in charge of all aspects of the business's daily operations.
