NFRA Announces Golden Penguin Award Winners
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- In recognition of the outstanding promotional efforts of the frozen food industry during March National Frozen Food Month, the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) here named 39 winners of its Golden Penguin Awards, including honorees in 15 retail and foodservice categories.
The trade group also named 55 Silver Penguin winners in 13 categories, out of hundreds of entries from across the country.
NFRA said five winners will be honored this year with a specially designed amber penguin commemorating three consecutive Gold awards in the same category. Receiving a Gold award for the third year are Acosta Sales & Marketing, Jacksonville in the Retail Sales Agent category; Jewel-Osco in the Retail Corporate Chain or Division (Over 50 Stores) category; Kings Super Markets, Inc. in the Retail Corporate Chain or Division (10-50 Stores) category; Nestle USA in the Retail Manufacturer Military Division (Special Judges Award) category; and North Florida Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association in the Local Frozen Food Association (Over 50 Members) category.
HFRA said judges looked for the best creative effort, which included use of the Bring Us To Your Table! Freezer Favorites logo/theme during a full 30-day program. The winners had to clearly demonstrate their promotional efforts through the use of in-store consumer programs, advertising, community service and education, creative use of merchandising materials, and special displays.
Gold Penguins will be presented at a gala reception and banquet at the 2006 National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention on Oct. 10, 2006 in Orlando, Fla. Silver Penguins are typically presented at the local level at appropriate frozen food association meetings.
There are still two more opportunities to compete for a Golden Penguin in 2006, NFRA said. Golden Penguins will also be awarded for merchandising excellence during June Dairy Month and the June/July Ice Cream & Novelties display contest.
