Foodtown Names New President/COO

AVENEL, N.J. -- Foodtown, Inc., the cooperative for the Foodtown chain of supermarkets, based here, has chosen one of its own to serve as president and c.o.o.

William Donahoe, 44, who officially assumes his new duties today, has been with Foodtown since the company's beginning in 1999. His career in the food industry spans more than 27 years, with stints at Acme Markets, A&P, and Twin County Grocers.

"Bill has played a key role in the success and growth of our organization and membership, and we are pleased to have him assume this very important position," said Peter Lavoy, retiring president/c.o.o. of Foodtown, in a statement. "The food retailing industry is fiercely competitive right now, and Bill has the skill, insight, and forward thinking we consider to be vital to remaining a prominent and profitable player in this arena."

After joining Foodtown, Donahoe quickly expanded his merchandising responsibilities. As director, he managed the grocery, frozen, DSD, general merchandise, and HBC functions. In 2000, he was promoted to v.p. over these areas. In 2005 he was appointed v.p. -- merchandising, and broadened his responsibilities to include advertising, dairy, meat, and produce.

Lavoy will continue to work with Foodtown in the company's new business development efforts.

Foodtown Inc. is a cooperative whose members independently own and operate over 60 stores in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Foodtown will widen its presence beyond the metropolitan area with the planned opening of three stores in Merritt Island, West Palm Beach, and Davie, Fla. later this month.
