    ZAANDAM, Netherlands -- Ahold yesterday said it had consummated the sale of Deli XL, its Ede, Netherlands-based delivered foodservice wholesale subsidiary. The transaction's value came to about 140 million euros (US $171.7 million), comprising cash, debt repaid to Ahold, and assumed debt.

    CARLISLE, Pa. -- Giant Food Stores, LLC, based here, will be opening a 91,000-square-foot prototype store with about 27,000 square feet of mezzanine space in a Camp Hill, Pa.-based property owned by Port Washington, N.Y.-based real estate investment trust Cedar Shopping Centers. The store will be the largest in the Giant/Martin's Food Markets chain.

    ZAANDAM, Netherlands -- Global retailer Ahold NV said yesterday it swung to a second-quarter net profit of 130 million euros (US$161.4 million), as the company continued to work on its Road to Recovery program in what it admitted is a competitive environment. Total net sales were 10.4 billion euros ($12.9 billion), a 0.9 percent decrease from the prior year.
