Green Moves Up to C.O.O. at Food Lion
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Cathy Green, a supermarket veteran who was named an s.v.p. of retail operations at Food Lion here just over a month ago, has now moved even further up the corporate ladder, this time to the role of chief operating officer.
In her new position, Green has responsibility for Food Lion's retail operations, merchandising, marketing, and distribution network. She reports to Food Lion's president and c.e.o. Rick Anicetti, who formerly held the title of c.o.o.
As s.v.p. of retail operations-north, Green oversaw all aspects of Food Lion's retail operations in the company's Northern and Atlantic divisions, encompassing approximately 600 stores in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Before that, Green served the company as s.v.p. of fresh merchandising, distribution, and quality assurance, directing fresh produce, meat, deli, and bakery operations, including quality control and selection, and vendor relations. She was also responsible for the company's distribution and transportation network.
Like several other current Food Lion senior executives, Green came to Food Lion from its sister supermarket chain, Hannaford Bros., in her case in 2002. At Hannaford, she was v.p. of fresh merchandising. She began her career at Hannaford as a part-time service clerk while attending high school and college. She completed the grocer's retail training program and went on to hold several management positions, including assistant store manager, perishables manager and store manager. She has more than 20 years of experience in the retail grocery industry.
