XX Marks the Spot
Premium Mexican beer brand Dos Equis has received the Market Watch “Beer Brand of The Year” Award, in addition to Impact Magazine’s 2010 Hot Brand Award and Beverage Information Group’s 2010 Growth Brand Award in the “Fast Track” category.
The Market Watch honor was bestowed by a group of more than 200 active retail leaders from across the United States that collectively represents more than $10 billion in sales.
“The brand has proven resiliency in the today’s economy and has potential for continued double-digit growth for many years to come,” said Colin Westcott Pitt, VP marketing, Dos Equis, Amstel Light, Newcastle Brown Ale at White Plains, N.Y.-based Heineken USA, the importer of Dos Equis and other well-known beer brands.
Impact Magazine “Hot Brand” selections are based on a survey in which Impact Magazine and Market Watch readers take part. The Beverage Information Group “Fast Track” Growth Brand Award goes to brands that are at least five years old, have exceeded 100,000 9-liter cases in the current year and have achieved double-digit growth in each of the past four years. Earlier this year, Dos Equis’ “The Most Interesting Man in the World” promotion took home a 2011 Gold CLIO Award in the category of Film Campaign.
Since the introduction of the Most Interesting Man in the World in 2007, Dos Equis has morphed into a social media pioneer, becoming the first beer brand to attain 1 million ‘Likes’ on Facebook globally. The brand has leveraged the advertising icon and his adventures into a sustainable campaign that has inspired a huge following among consumers and industry leaders alike.
