Walmart Reintroduces ‘Great Gas Rollback’
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has brought back its “Great Gas Rollback” program, which enables consumers to save on fuel purchases. Under the program, Walmart customers using a Walmart gift card will get a 10-cent-per-gallon discount; while those with a Walmart MoneyCard or Walmart Credit Card will save 15 cents per gallon on gas.
The discount program is available through July 7 at more than 1,000 Murphy USA and Walmart gas stations at Walmart stores in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. The Great Gas Rollback differs slightly in Alabama and Florida because of state regulations.
“As I travel to stores across the country, I am constantly hearing that gas prices are making it tough for our customers to balance their budgets,” said Gisel Ruiz, COO for Walmart U.S., a division of Bentonville, Ark.-based Walmart. “For every cent gas prices climb, consumers have $1 billion less to spend. Over the past two years, our Great Gas Rollback has saved customers more than $100 million. This year, we’re bringing it back to help families as they hit the road to visit relatives, go on vacation, celebrate the summer holidays, and [for] every shopping trip in between.”
In other company news, Mini Melts Ice Cream will soon be available via automated retail kiosks, manufactured exclusively by Fastcorp LLC, in most Walmart stores nationwide.
Manufactured through a patented process employing liquid nitrogen to flash-freeze the product and lock in flavor while keeping out air and ice which would dilute the flavor, premium beaded Mini Melts Ice cream is offered through automated retail kiosks, carts and serving freezers in such venues as theme parks, entertainment centers, retail stores, shopping malls and zoos.
“We plan to continue sharing this opportunity with our growing operator network,” said Shawn Kilcoyne, CEO of Mini Melts USA Inc. “We have chosen to remain an alternative to franchising in our industry, which we believe will keep a strong sense of entrepreneurial spirit among our network and keep our operators focused on growing opportunities while minimizing startup costs.”
“Our automated kiosks provide superior merchandising, and they are the most energy-efficient and reliable kiosks on the market,” noted Todd Piatnik, president of Fastcorp.
Walmart operates 10,700 stores under 69 banners in 27 countries and e-commerce websites in 10 countries.
