Wal-Mart Opens 100th Neighborhood Market

BENTONVILLE, Ark. --The 39,690-square-foot Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market that opened yesterday in Albuquerque, N.M. represented a milestone in at least two respects: The store is the 100th Neighborhood Market in the United States, and the first to open in New Mexico.

The store, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offers a full line of groceries, among them bakery goods, frozen foods, meat and dairy products, and fresh produce. It additionally features a full deli with rotisserie chicken and a fresh area. Shoppers can also buy cosmetics, toiletries, pet products, and hardware items. The market has eight full-service and four self-checkout lanes.

Other store amenities include 30-minute photo-processing lab that lets customers drop off film and pick up photos while they shop, beer and wine sales, a drive-through pharmacy with two drive-up lanes, and a new section, the "Grab-It-And-Go" bar just inside the front entrance, where customers can buy a doughnut, pastry, coffee, or fountain drink and paying for the purchases by placing money in an "honor system" box.

In addition to the new Neighborhood Market, New Mexico currently has 26 supercenters, three discount stores, five Sam's Clubs, and 1 distribution center.
