United Supermarkets' Latest Store Hits Several Firsts for Chain

United Supermarkets opened a new store featuring its Market Street concept today in Frisco-Frisco, Texas that is, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The 70,000 square foot store, billed as a "world-class food concept store," offers gourmet meats and cheeses, fresh produce with a large organic selection, and a whole health center featuring natural, organic, and bulk foods.

The new Market Street unit features several firsts or almost-firsts for the chain.

"This is our first new store with a clinic and our research & development kitchen is here," Eddie Owens, corporate communications director for the Lubbock, Texas-based chain told Progressive Grocer on Wednesday.

The location features "A Taste of Market Street," a mini-version of Market Street within the confines of the store parking lot, designed for quick access and featuring a fuel station, bakery, gourmet meals to go using the small store's drive-through, fresh produce, and other items found inside the main store.

"For that individual-on-the-go, he/she can utilize the drive-thru convenience of 'A Taste of Market Street' and pick-up a delicious meal and a few other items without having to get out of the car," said United Supermarkets ceo Dan Sanders.

"This is our first Dallas/Fort Worth location for A Taste of Market Street, and only the second ever," Owens said. (The first was at a store in Lubbock.) "We are doing a "free fuel" promotion only at this store beginning next Friday -- for every $25 a guest purchases in groceries, they get 10 cents per gallon off their fuel purchase at A Taste of Market Street."

The chain's next new store in Coppell will also have a mini version of Market Street when it opens in early December.

United Supermarkets, LLC, operates 47 Texas stores under three distinct formats: United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos United.
