United Seeks Applicants Produce Industry Leadership Program
Washington, D.C. -- The United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Association wants you as a Produce Industry Leader. The trade group's Research & Education Foundation here has kicked off the application period for its 12th Produce Industry Leadership Program.
The program, made possible through a grant from DuPont Crop Protection, is a special opportunity for United members to develop advanced leadership skills among the industry's elite. Through an annual, highly competitive selection process, an advisory committee selects 12 applicants to participate in the yearlong program. Since the program's inception in 1995, more than 130 industry members have participated.
United board member and Class 7 program alumnus Fred M. Williamson, of Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce, will chair the 2006 advisory committee. "The leadership program takes 12 industry fellows on a valuable journey of learning and discovery; I'm certain that the participants will not emerge as the same people who started," said Williamson.
The program builds cohesion among industry sectors, and provides the opportunity for intensive training and growth in leadership development, business relationships, government and public affairs, and media and public communications.
Throughout the year, the class will participate in four customized trips, including face-to-face meetings with leading industry players; hands-on training with top industry experts and educators, together with a specially designed curriculum at UC Davis; and interactive experiences with influential leaders in Washington, DC. The program will include trips to Central/Northern California; Washington, D.C/ Wilmington, Del; Central Chile; and Chicago, for the 2007 United Produce Show at FMI.
