UNFI Names Millbrook Ex-C.E.O. Specialty Distribution Prez

DAYVILLE, Conn. -- United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI) said yesterday it had named Robert A. Sigel, former president and c.e.o. of Millbrook Distribution Services, Inc., to the newly created position of president of specialty distribution of UNFI. Sigel will continue as president of Millbrook, which was acquired by UNFI last month.

Sigel, who has held several management positions at Millbrook since 1977, among them v.p., sales and merchandising and e.v.p., helped build the company from a small distributor to a full-line distributor with a substantial specialty food business and an extensive selection of HBC items. In 1986 McKesson Corp. acquired Millbrook, and Sigel became president and c.e.o. of Millbrook Distributors four years later. He was named corporate v.p. of McKesson in 1995, a position he held until 1997.

UNFI also named Carl F. Koch to the position of v.p., human resources. Koch joined United Natural Foods in 2001 and most recently served as the company's v.p. of risk and compliance, with corporatewide responsibilities for risk management and human resource functions. Before coming to UNFI, he worked for a nationwide construction staffing company as director of finance and risk management and before that he was a manager with the Liberty Mutual Insurance Group.

UNFI carries and distributes over 40,000 products to more than 17,000 customers nationwide. The company serves a wide variety of retail formats, including conventional supermarket chains, natural product superstores, independent retail operators, and the foodservice channel.
