Tops Adds 40 Accounting Jobs
Tops Markets, LLC said it has created 40 local accounting jobs as part of a promise to boost the size of its work force as it transitions to a locally managed and operated company.
“These new accounting jobs are an important part of our operations, and this announcement is yet another indication of Tops’ commitment to western New York and our pledge to create new jobs and opportunities,” noted Tops s.v.p. of human resources Jack Barrett.
Tops said that since the beginning of the year it has added 60 jobs in the area.
Ranging from staff accountants and clerks, to analysts and supervisors, the new positions will be based at either Tops’ headquarters in Williamsville, N.Y. or at an additional space close to the corporate office.
According to Barrett, Tops is taking over its own accounting responsibilities from Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant Foods, which managed various Tops operations, among them accounting, during the time both companies were owned by Ahold USA.
In December 2007 Morgan Stanley Private Equity acquired Tops, and since that time Tops management has been engaged in bringing most of its operations back to western New York.
The grocer said in March that that its headquarters would stay in Williamsville.
Tops operates 71 full-service supermarkets and five franchise supermarkets, and employs over 10,000 associates.
