Shaw’s Reopens 4 Stores Under New Star Market Concept

Shaw’s Supermarkets has reopened four Star Market locations in Boston, Cambridge and Belmont, Mass., holding official ribbon-cutting ceremonies on Nov. 1. The new Star Market concept offers premium offerings with a focus on fresh produce, top-quality meat and seafood, and a large product assortment.

“Star Market has a long-standing and recognizable brand throughout the region, and these four stores represent the beginning of the fresh vision we have to build the Star Market brand for the future,” noted Shaw’s and Star Market President Shane Sampson. “A lot of hard work went into the planning and revamp of these locations to ensure we are providing customers the quality products and premium customer service they deserve and expect from us. This is an important first step in our vision to make the Star Market brand the finest supermarket experience for customers.”

The West Bridgewater, Mass.-based company made significant investments in the stores, including new layouts and color palettes, updated food cases, and the addition of Express lanes for more personal service. Among the revamped stores’ features are seafood departments offering fresh, restaurant-quality seafood at supermarket prices; a bigger selection of fresh produce, including expanded offerings of organic and local produce and more fresh-cut fruits and vegetables; an extensive variety of high-quality meats, along with a premium deli offering; a larger selection of prepared meals such as sushi, hot chicken, a pizza station, as well as carving stations and assorted ready-to-eat proteins; more natural, organic and gluten-free products within the Wild Harvest departments; and fresh breads and gourmet desserts in the bakery department.

In celebration of the store reopenings, Star Market made $8,000 in donations to local organizations.

Shaw’s operates 157 stores and employs about 19,000 associates in five New England states.
