Schnuck Markets' O'Brien to Lead Produce For Better Health Foundation

ST. LOUIS -- On the heels of the Produce for Better Health Foundation’s launch of its new "Fruits & Veggies-More Matters" health initiative, Mike O'Brien, new PBH chairman and the v.p./produce for Schnuck Markets, Inc. here, plans to waste little time promoting the new campaign in his fleet of supermarkets in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

O'Brien said Schnucks customers will soon notice new logos and messaging in the produce department in support of the new program.

"Our customers are interested in learning how to include more fruits and vegetables in their families' meals," O'Brien said. "We will be providing them with tips on everything from selecting the best produce to how to get their children to eat more."

The well-respected O'Brien, a 35-year Schnucks veteran, was tapped from store operations in 2000 for the chain's produce operations.

He has played a visible role already in many produce industry initiatives, and his profile is likely to heighten in the coming year, in tandem with the long-awaited kickoff of "More Matters," which replaces PBH's 15-year-old "5 A Day" initiative.
