Save Mart Banners Launch Holiday Food Drives
Save Mart's Lucky, S-Mart Foods, and Save Mart stores in Northern California and Northern Nevada yesterday launched annual Holiday Food Drive programs to benefit local food banks in the communities they serve.
Save Mart and S-Mart invited shoppers to purchase pre-packed bags of groceries for $10 or $20, and to place any additional food products of their choice in the collection barrels located at the front of the stores. The two banners aim to provide over 170,000 meals to deserving families.
"We are faced with hunger in our communities every day, and the need becomes much greater during the holiday season, particularly in this year's struggling economy," said Steve Junqueiro, c.o.o. of Save Mart Supermarkets, owner and operator of the three banners. "We are appealing to our customers, and hope that their generosity will fill the barrels and fill the warehouses at their local food bank."
Lucky's multifaceted drive, which aims to provide over 95,000 meals, combines traditional food barrels and pre-packaged grocery bags with promotions at an Oakland Raiders football game, a special event highlighting the Golden State Warriors basketball team, and live in-store broadcasts by John Farley, chief meteorologist of the San Francisco Bay Area's NBC-TV 11.
At all Lucky stores through the end of 2008, customers are invited to purchase pre-packed bags of groceries for $10 or $20, and to place any additional food products of their choice in the collection barrels located at the front of the stores. Customers who make a donation will receive an entry form to win dinner with a Raider, a midweek Heavenly ski vacation for two, a football signed by Raider Alex Smith, and Golden State Warriors memorabilia.
The fundraising efforts for all three Save Mart banners will continue through the end of December.
Save Mart operates nearly 250 stores throughout Northern California and Northern Nevada under the Save Mart, S-Mart Foods, Lucky, and FoodMaxx banners.
