Price Chopper Plans New Frozen Foods DC

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Golub Corp., parent company of Price Chopper Supermarkets here, has announced plans to construct a $15 million state-of-the-art frozen foods distribution center in Schenectady County as the retailer solidifies its commitment to that area.

The 152,000-square-foot facility, to be located in the Rotterdam Industrial Park, will service frozen food distribution for the entire Price Chopper chain, replacing satellite freezer warehouses in Colonie and Waterford, N.Y., which are currently operating at or at near capacity, according to the company. All 72 jobs that currently service frozen food distribution in these warehouses will move to Schenectady County.

In a lease-back deal, Price Chopper will build the new freezer to its specifications and then transfer ownership to the Galesi Group. The supermarket chain will then enter into a 25-year lease agreement with Galesi. This agreement includes options to accommodate Price Chopper's future growth, the retailer noted.
