Price Chopper Makes Executive Moves

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Price Chopper Supermarkets/Golub Corp. here said Friday it made several executive changes, including a promotion for a member of the Golub family.

The chain promoted Jane N. Golub, the wife of Price Chopper president and c.e.o. Neil M. Golub, to director of vendor income programs, reporting directly to e.v.p. and c.o.o. Larry Zettle. In her new role, Golub will direct and maximize the growth and income derived from all vendor income programs for the Northeast regional chain. Golub earlier served as manager of super samples, and most recently held the position of manager of vendor income programs. Golub is also the mother of Mona Golub, v.p. of public relations and consumer services at the company.

Price Chopper also promoted financial veteran Jon Finlan to director of internal audit, reporting to Neil Golub. Most recently manager of internal audit at Price Chopper, Finlan will continue to manage the financial, operational and IT auditing functions for the retailer. Since coming to Price Chopper in 1980, he has held grocery positions in the East Greenbush, N.Y. store and worked in the loss prevention department as a field audit specialist. Additionally, Finlan is a past chairman of the Board of the Price Chopper Employees Federal Credit Union.

It appointed Thomas Hayden director of real estate, reporting to Don Orlando, v.p. of real estate and construction. As well as securing sites for future Price Chopper units in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York, Hayden will also facilitate expansions and remodels of existing stores. He joins Price Chopper with 15 years of real estate experience gained at Ahold Cos., and Peter J. Schmitt.

Tim L. Fink has been named director of deli merchandising, reporting to Tom Brewer, v.p. of deli and food service merchandising. In this newly created position, Fink will overseeing all deli and foodservice merchandising for Price Chopper. A 30-year grocery veteran, Fink previously worked at Brodbeck Enterprises, doing business as Dick's Supermarkets. Among other professional affiliations, he is a member of the FMI Food Protection Committee.

Price Chopper also hired Joe Kelley as v.p. of merchandising, reporting to Jerry Golub, s.v.p. of sales and merchandising. Kelley will assume responsibility for all of the retailer's merchandising programs, overseeing pricing and private label initiatives, as well as acting as a liaison to store operations. Most recently the e.v.p. of Adams Supermarkets, Kelley previously worked for Price Chopper as zone director before taking the position at Adams.

The grocer promoted Leo O'Connor to v.p. of tax, reporting to Carol Cillis, v.p. and corporate controller. Previously Price Chopper's director of tax, O'Connor will be responsible for tax filings, tax audits, implementing tax law changes, and financial statements on tax accounts, as well as continuing continue to oversee the operations of the retirement plan, profit-sharing plan, and payroll departments for the grocer. O'Connor has been at Price Chopper since 1976.

Alan Poskanzer was promoted to director of corporate pricing, reporting to Jerry Golub. Poskanzer will take charge of coordinating pricing programs for all merchandising areas, including developing pricing strategies that align with corporate goals and objectives for Price Chopper. He has held many positions with the company, among them inventory coordinator, space management specialist, category manager, and, most recently, manager of corporate pricing.
