Meijer stores in Ohio can now deliver beer and wine to shoppers through the retailer's grocery ecommerce service.
An expansion of the service already available in Michigan, the new option lets customers choose from a large assortment of craft beers and wines as part of more than 70,000 groceries and daily essentials available through the grocery delivery service at 40 locations. Deliveries are fulfilled by third-party grocery delivery service Shipt, a subsidiary of Minneapolis-based mass-merchandiser Target Corp.
"We’ve received an incredible amount of feedback from customers wanting to take advantage of our large selection of craft beers and wine," said Keith Rothstein, group VP of merchandise services for Meijer. "We think this enhances the level of convenience our home delivery customers in Ohio can enjoy and allows them to take more advantage of what our stores have to offer."
The mass-merchandiser launched its grocery delivery service in the state last year and now offers it to more than 11 million households in its six-state footprint. Customers sign up for the membership-based service and shop online for their groceries, after which personal shoppers hand-pick items from local Meijer stores providing the service and deliver orders within a preferred one-hour window.
Customers can sign up for annual or monthly memberships with Meijer Home Delivery. Annual memberships are $99 per year and monthly memberships are $14 per month. New members get two weeks free plus $15 off their first order. Delivery is free for orders over $35; a flat $7 delivery fee is added to any orders under $35.
Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer operates more than 240 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin. It is No. 12 on Progressive Grocer's Super 50 list of the top grocers in the United States.
