Lunds Enlists Teradata for Warehouse Deployment
To mirror its increased information needs and user base, Lund Food Holdings (LFH) - which operates 10 Lunds and 11 Byerly's supermarkets in the Twin Cities and surrounding area -- has expanded and enhanced its Teradata active enterprise data warehouse (EDW) platform with added new functionality and speed to its information infrastructure.
"The Teradata platform accelerates reporting from weeks to just hours, giving us daily, integrated snapshots of the business," said Kevin Baartman, LFH's v.p. of IT. "The Teradata platform and expansion have been competitively priced, and the system has proven its value, with ease of use for our staff, and the capability of getting the information to the people who need it. The fact that we implemented the initial system in five months resulted in a quick return on our investment -- and we are really rolling on the expansion."
The initial five-month data warehouse deployment supported operational intelligence in sales, labor, merchandise management by item, budget, and other critical retail business metrics. Employing Teradata RetailDecisions software provides a broad scope of analytic templates and metrics for multiple views of the business, with rich data visibility to better access, predict, analyze, interpret and act on daily item movement by store, customer and channel.
The new extended and enhanced data warehouse at the Edina-based regional grocer will further drive greater insight into a number of key business processes and economic drivers, with a sharp focus on marketing and customer analysis for insights into improved customer service.
Baartman said the next phase beginning immediately is focused on better understanding the buying behavior of customers (market basket analysis), as well as supporting the online customer service staff. Another key focus will be on inventory optimization, he added.
