Lifeway Foods Sees Sales Soar for Q2

MORTON GROVE, Ill. -- Lifeway Foods, Inc., maker of the milk-based cultured beverage kefir, said yesterday that sales for its second quarter ended June 30, 2006, increased 26 percent, to $6.36 million from $5.07 million during the same period a year ago, and that new product rollouts should keep the momentum going.

"The second quarter 2006 was another outstanding quarter for Lifeway Foods," said Julie Smolyansky, Lifeway's c.e.o. "Our new Probug's Organic Whole Milk Kefir has already hit the shelf, and is continuing to be approved by several major grocery chains including Whole Foods, Albertsons, and Kroger. We believe this new and innovative dairy product for kids, the first in the dairy industry, will further bring awareness of Lifeway's award winning Kefir beverages.

"We are also confident our strong first half results will continue in the second half of 2006 as awareness of our products grow and we continue to gain more distribution," Smolyansky said.

Lifeway said it is America's leading supplier of kefir, a cultured dairy beverage that contains Lifeway's exclusive 10 Live and Active probiotic cultures. Lifeway also produces a line of products marketed in US Hispanic communities, called La Fruta Drinkable Yogurt; plus a variety of cheese products and It's Pudding!, a recently introduced line of organic pudding products.
