Kroger, UFCW/Columbus Local Reach Tentative Pact
The Kroger Co. has hammered out another tentative deal with a local labor union, this time with the United Food & Commercial Workers Union Local 1059. The pact covers more than 11,000 Kroger associates who work in 87 stores in and around Columbus, Ohio.
The Columbus-based UFCW local will present the proposed agreement to its members for ratification during several meetings this Friday, Aug. 15, at various locations. Details of the tentative agreement are not being released pending ratification.
Noting that the tentative agreement "keeps Kroger competitive in this marketplace," Bruce Macaulay, president of Kroger's Columbus division, said: "Both Local 1059 and Kroger came together and worked hard to reach an agreement that provides quality jobs and affordable, quality health care for associates and their families."
Kroger operates 2,474 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 31 states under two dozen local banners.
