Harris Teeter Gambles on Lunch, New Parent Co. Name

12/21/2011

Harris Teeter has teamed up with Carolina Panthers cornerback Chris Gamble to debut the football player’s personally designed Signature Sub Sandwich.

To introduce theSoutheast  grocery chain’s latest deli offering, Gamble will make an appearance at the Harris Teeter Morrowcroft Village in Charlotte, N.C., on Dec. 27, from noon to 1 p.m., during which he’ll provide sadnwich samples and sign autographs for fans.

Retailing for $3.99 apiece, the “Take a Gamble” sandwich consists of a breaded chicken breast dipped in hot sauce; topped with provolone, lettuce, tomato, and pickles; and sprinkled with oregano on a wheat sub roll flavored with red pepper basil spread. For $4.99, customers can buy a lunch pack offering a “Take a Gamble” half-sub; a choice of Harris Teeter Sweet Tea, Unsweet Tea or Lemonade; and a choice of one Chocolate Chunk, Macadamia Nut, Oatmeal Raisin or Cranberry Nut Cookie.

“Take a Gamble” will be sold in the Fresh Foods Market Sandwich Shop in all Charlotte-area Harris Teeter stores. The sandwich is the Matthews, N.C.-based grocer’s fifth Panthers-themed Signature Sub Sandwich of the season, with more to come. As with past introductions in the sandwich line, Panthers merchandise will be available for customers to purchase at the stores.

In other Harris Teeter news, the grocer's parent company, Charlotte-based Ruddick Corp., revealed its intention to seek shareholder approval to change its name to Harris Teeter Supermarkets Inc.. in a Dec. 14 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing. The move reflects Ruddick's sale of its other line of business, textile company American & Efird Corp., in November to focus exclusively on the 204-store supermarket chain.
