Giant-Landover Gives $2 Million to Schools

LANDOVER, Md. -- Giant Food, LLC has donated a total of $2 million in grants to more than 3,600 area schools that benefited from the Ahold-owned banner's 2005-2006 A+ "BonusBucks" program.

Over the past 17 years, Giant has contributed more than $73 million in cash and classroom educational aids. The latest program, which ran from Oct. 2, 2005 to April 1, 2006, allowed Giant and Super G shoppers to help participating area schools by making purchases with their BonusCards. Schools then received points or "BonusBucks" for every consumer dollar spent using the cards. Customers earmarked schools to get their A+ BonusBucks points from their Giant or Super G BonusCard purchases.

The top cash grant recipient of the 2005-2006 program was Monsignor Slade Catholic School in Glen Burnie, Md., which received $11,052.02. A listing of all cash awards given to participating schools can be viewed on Giant's Web site at http://www.giantfood.com.

Giant operates 192 supermarkets in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia, and employs over 25,000 associates. Includes within the 192 stores are 163 full-service pharmacies.
