FMI Names Director of Gov’t Relations

The Food Marketing Institute (FMI) has appointed Robert Rosado its director of government relations. Rosado will deal with legislation affecting supermarkets in the areas of food safety, health care, food deserts and the 2012 Farm Bill.

“Rob has a broad range of expertise in food and agriculture that will be very helpful to FMI and its members,” said Leslie G. Sarasin, president and CEO of Arlington, Va.-based FMI. “His background also includes working with federal agencies on many issues related to the food retail industry”

Rosado joins the trade organization from the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO), where he was policy manager for the food and agriculture issues. Before joining BIO, he was director of legislative and political affairs for the Foreign Agriculture Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. While at USDA, Rosado managed legislative and communications activities for the agency and USDA on international issues, including the Farm Bill, trade, foreign market development and food assistance issues. He earlier spent five years as senior director of legislative affairs at the American Meat Institute.
