Fairway Coming to NYC Borough of Queens

After two years of planning, gourmet grocer Fairway will open a 56,000-square-foot store in Douglaston, a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens, on Nov. 16. “Walking into Fairway will be like taking a trip around the world,” the grocer promised of its latest location – its first in the borough -- which offers 15,000 square feet of space more than the previous market in the lower level of Douglaston Plaza Shopping Center.

Features will include more than 600 artisanal cheeses; dozens of hot dishes prepared fresh; coffee roasted on premises; more than 45,000 traditional, specialty, and organic groceries, including gluten-free items; homemade mozzarella, sushi, pasta, and sausage; custom-cut meat and poultry, as well as hand-selected, dry-aged prime beef; a large kosher selection; produce delivered direct from farm to store; baked goods made fresh daily; and organic and natural health and beauty aids.

Among the additional amenities are an extensive café that will premiere two exclusive, first-time-offered stations, a Create-Your-Own-Smoothie Bar and a Frozen Yogurt Bar, in addition to a wide variety of international offerings; an espresso bar; and a comprehensive floral department providing custom arrangements. Catering won’t be available at the Douglaston location until after Thanksgiving, however.

The store will also offer more than 400 free parking spaces, with two large elevators near the entrance to providing easy access to the upper-level parking area for shoppers and carts.

Fairway currently operates eight markets in the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn; Paramus, N.J.; Pelham Manor, N.Y.; Plainview, N.Y.; and Stamford, Conn.
