Country Home Bakers to Reorganize
SHELTON, Conn. - National frozen dough supplier Country Home Bakers Inc. on Wednesday announced that it has filed a petition in New Haven, Conn., to reorganize under Chapter 11.
"While we attempted to resolve our difficulties and implement our strategic plan on our own, it became clear that this was the only remedy we could take at this time," said Judith L. Borck, Country Home Bakers CEO and President. "During this period of reorganization, we will continue to provide our customers with quality products and dedicated service."
Country Home has been affected by multiple factors impacting the food industry, including declining sales due to the economy and negative reactions following the terrorist attacks of September 11. Since the pie business does not traditionally generate cash profits in the first quarter, the reorganization plan includes scaling back the company's pie business.
"While we will be a smaller company for the time being, our intent is to become a focused supplier that is best in quality, service and value," Borck said. "We look forward to presenting our plan to the court, working with our lenders and suppliers and completing the reorganization process with a strong business to serve our markets."
The company remains fully operational at its Atlanta manufacturing plant, which produces bread and rolls, frozen dough, cookie dough and biscuits and a variety of other products.
