SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. - Weis Markets chairman Robert F. Weis on Tuesday said his company would invest $67.4 million over the next 12 months for construction of five superstores and the remodel or expansion of 12 units.

SUNBURY, Pa. - Weis Markets Inc. on Friday reported that its fourth-quarter sales after adjustment increased .3 percent and identical store sales increased .4 percent compared to the same quarter last year. However, the company experienced an 18 percent drop in fourth-quarter profits.

LONDON - Britain's Marks and Spencer said on Saturday it was still in talks over the sale of its U.S. unit Kings Super Markets, Reuters reports.

Weis Markets Inc. today said its third quarter sales for the period ending September 29, 2001 increased 2.7% to $498.8 million compared to the same period a year ago and that it generated $11.7 million in net income.

Beleaguered British retailer Marks & Spencer is expected to finalize the sale of its upscale U.S. grocery division Kings Super Markets, as well as its Brooks Bros. clothing stores, in October.
