STELLARTON, N.S. -- Empire Co., Ltd. has received the go-ahead from the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia to take its Sobeys, Inc. supermarket chain subsidiary private.

STELLARTON, N.S. -- Sobeys, Inc. here and Empire Co., Ltd. said Saturday that Sobeys' shareholders have approved the plan of arrangement under which Empire will acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Sobeys that it doesn't now own, for CAN $58 (US $55) per share, thus taking the Canadian food retailer private.

STELLARTON, N.S. -- Sobeys, Inc. here and Empire Co., Ltd. have come to an agreement in which Empire will buy all of the outstanding common shares of Sobeys that it doesn't already own for CAN $58 per share (US $52), thereby taking the company private.

CARTERET, N.J.-- James Moody, a veteran supermarket executive and former Hannaford Bros. Co. c.e.o., has joined Pathmark Stores, Inc.'s board of directors. The appointment increases the size of the northern New Jersey-based retailer's board to seven members.
