Celebrity Chefs Celebrate Giant Eagle's Market District Opening

PITTSBURGH -- To help generate local buzz and get across the message that Giant Eagle's two new Market District stores are all about the food, a contingent of celebrity chefs and entertaining experts will make a series of guest appearances at the newly opened units starting this weekend.

The chain has planned in-store book sales and autograph sessions for several free events. On tap for this weekend, Thai food specialist Naam Pruitt, author of Lemongrass and Limes, will make an appearance; while Sara Moulton, executive chef of Gourmet magazine and host of "Sara's Secrets" on The Food Network, will visit Market District stores on July 15.

On July 20, Rick Bayless, host of the PBS television series "Cooking Mexican," will make an appearance; and PBS host Katie Brown, who provides easy and affordable advice on food preparation/presentation and casual entertaining, will be on hand August 19, followed by Joan Nathan, author and PBS host of "Jewish Cooking in America," on Sept. 12-13.

A series of other in-store grand opening activities are also ongoing, including food sampling, local chef demonstrations, community activities, and sweepstakes running throughout the month of July.

The Giant Eagle Market District destination store concept offers an enhanced food shopping experience, geared toward food enthusiasts. The format features specialty and unique items in an environment where customers' passion for food can be cultivated by a staff of food experts.

In two locations in the southwestern Pennsylvania region, the Market District stores also feature teams of chefs and other culinary professionals preparing fresh foods from scratch daily. The assortment combines unusual items with national brands and everyday needs all under the same roof.

Giant Eagle has 216 supermarkets in addition to more than 100 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia, and Maryland.
