Brown’s ShopRite Partnership Provides Holiday Meals

Brown’s ShopRite, nonprofit UpLift Solutions and the Urban Affairs Coalition, along with local Philadelphia lawmakers, partnered for a generous Thanksgiving basket distribution that assisted local families.

Assembled by a team of roughly 60 volunteers, the effort was also made possible with by donations from major sponsors, including Pepsi and Glory Foods, which supplied many of the items in the Thanksgiving holiday baskets that provided over 6,000 individuals throughout Philadelphia with a memorable meal.

Founded in 1988 by president and CEO Jeffrey Brown and headquartered in Westville, N.J., Brown’s Super Stores, which is well recognized for its dedication to the communities it serves, operates 10 Philadelphia area ShopRites. The company has been formally recognized as a "Best Place to Work” by the Philadelphia Business Journal three years in as row, as well as earning recognition from other media and civic organizations.

In 2009, Jeff Brown founded UpLift Solutions, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, as a platform to share his urban supermarket expertise and experience on a national basis. Brown has pioneered the effort of eliminating food deserts in the U.S. by working with government agencies, non-profits and industry to create job opportunities and address issues specific to “at-risk” communities, including limited access to healthy food.
