ALDI Touts Own Brand to Help Consumers Reach New Year’s Goals

ALDI hopes to lure shoppers who want to stick to their New Year’s resolutions to get healthy while still saving money, by spotlighting its exclusive Fit & Active product line.

“Our Fit & Active line includes products that are lower in fat, lower in calories or with reduced sodium,” explained Chuck Youngstrom, president of the Batavia, Ill.-based discount grocer. “And with up to 50 percent savings over national brands, these products help ALDI customers make smart choices not just for the New Year, but every day.”

Among the more than 50 products offered under the Fit & Active brand, which debuted in 2004, are Smoked & Cured Turkey Bacon with 65 percent less fat and no trans fat; Strawberry Nonfat Yogurt, with just 100 calories and zero grams of fat; Light String Cheese, featuring only 2.5 grams of fat and 25 percent fewer calories than regular string cheese; 51% Whole Grain Spaghetti, with no cholesterol or preservatives; Original Organic Soymilk, providing a good source of 10 vitamins, minerals and protein, as well as being lactose-, gluten- and cholesterol-free, and containing only 90 calories per serving; and Egg Substitute that’s cholesterol- and fat-free with zero grams of trans fat, as well as containing 6 grams of protein and only 30 calories per serving.

The Fit & Active line has green tabs on the front of each package called “Fit Facts,” which call out the calorie, fat, sugar and sodium content in each serving of food, providing a quick and easy way for consumers to know just what's in the food they’re purchasing.

ALDI has also joined forces with the USDA MyPlate program to educate shoppers about how to eat more healthfully and employ portion control.

At ALDI, shoppers can “Switch & Save” from national brands to the chain’s exclusive value offerings. The chain also carries fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables as well as fresh, high-quality USDA-inspected lean meats and reduced-fat dairy products at considerable savings.

The grocer further offers a Double Guarantee on its private label products: If for any reason, a customer isn’t 100 percent satisfied with an item, ALDI will replace it and refund the customer’s money.

Selling more than 1,400 of the most frequently purchased grocery and household items, limited-assortment retailer ALDI operates more than 1,100 U.S. stores in 31 states, primarily from Kansas to the East Coast. The chain continues to expand, most recently in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and south Florida.
