Albertsons, P&G Launching National 'Moms Helping Moms' Program
BOISE, Idaho -- Albertsons, Inc. here and Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble have joined forces to roll out the "Moms Helping Moms" program to help mothers across the country connect with family and friends on Mother's Day, May 14.
The program, which runs through May 20, will give Albertsons shoppers who buy $25 worth of P&G products a coupon good for a $5.50 phone card so that they can call their moms on Mother's Day. Additionally, Albertsons and P&G will donate a phone card to a women's shelter for every card generated by the campaign -- as many as 7,000 cards nationally.
"In addition to helping moms stay in touch with family and friends, this program also addresses a great need in local communities by providing phone cards to women's shelters -- the No. 1 item requested by these organizations," noted Albertsons e.v.p. of merchandising and marketing Duncan Mac Naughton in a statement.
To increase the number of phone cards donated to shelters, greeters will also be placed at select Albertsons' banner stores nationwide on May 13 to present a special gift of carnations to women and urge them to take part in the program.
Added Todd Ruberg, P&G director of customer development. "We believe that contributing phone cards to women's shelters will brighten Mother's Day for less fortunate moms in our local communities."
In other Albertsons news, the supermarket chain has placed orders for five new installations of Fiberstars EFO (Efficient Fiber Optic) lighting system through its national distributor, bringing to 11 the total number of EFO orders for Albertsons. Solon, Ohio-based Fiberstar's system consumes as little as 20 percent of the energy of traditional lighting, offering customers considerably lower energy, maintenance, and cooling costs over fluorescent, incandescent, and other traditional lighting technologies. Whole Foods has similarly adopted the system, while such major chains as Safeway and Publix are currently testing it.
Albertsons' divisions and subsidiaries operate about 2,500 stores in 37 states across the United States and employ approximately 240,000 associates. Among the company's banners are Albertsons, Acme, Shaw's, Jewel-Osco, Sav-on Drugs, Osco Drug, and Star Market, as well as Super Saver and Bristol Farms, which are operated independently.
