Albertsons, Coca-Cola Partner to Celebrate Black History Month

BOISE, Idaho - Albertsons and Coca-Cola yesterday announced plans for their third annual Black History Month celebration honoring the African-American community. The partnership will observe Black History Month throughout the month of February by donating more than $100,000 to African-American organizations in some of supermarket chain's biggest markets.

The amount of the contribution represents a part of the proceeds from sales of African-American-manufactured or -distributed products at Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, and Acme stores during February. The yearly joint program salutes African-American entrepreneurs whose success in business reflects their commitment to their customers, their communities, and their employees.

"The exemplary leadership demonstrated by African-American entrepreneurs has been a significant yet sometimes unrecognized factor in this country's economic success," said Larry Johnston, Albertsons' president, chairman and c.e.o. "Albertsons is privileged to once again join with Coca-Cola to honor our African-American community by making significant contributions that will help several important organizations."

"Once again Coca-Cola, in partnership with Albertsons, is proud to acknowledge the achievements of African-American entrepreneurs and support those organizations that celebrate that strong sense of heritage and positive community values," said Dan Marr, president, North America Sales for Coca-Cola Enterprises. "The Black History Month program offers a chance to reflect on some of the positive accomplishments of both the people and organizations that make our communities the rich, culturally diverse environments in which we live and work each day."

With annual revenues of approximately $36 billion, Albertsons employs more than 200,000 employees and runs about 2,300 retail stores in 31 states, under banners including Albertsons, Jewel-Osco, Acme, Albertsons-Osco, Albertsons-Sav-on, Sav-on Drugs, Osco Drug, Max Foods, and Super Saver.
