Ahold Exec to Speak on Sarbanes-Oxley at Debut Coupon Conference

DES PLAINES, Ill. -- Executives from Ahold USA and General Mills will lead an interactive discussion about Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, at the first annual Coupon Industry Conference, to be held March 27-29 in Washington, DC.

The event will be presented by the Association of Coupon Professionals (ACP), Food Marketing Institute (FMI), Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), and GS1US (formerly Uniform Code Council).

The headline speakers will be two executives at Ahold Financial Services: Kris Murphy and Carla Johnson; as well as Jackie Broberg of General Mills, who will discuss how Sarbanes-Oxley compliance has impacted the way trading partners account for coupons and trade funds. Topics will include interpreting Sarbanes Oxley regulations; and whether Sarbanes Oxley makes clearer the distinction between consumer and trade funds.

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act imposed new accounting requirements for companies, and proper revenue and expense recognition are major issues of the new regulations. They provide specific guidelines that outline which expenditures related to consumer and trade promotion must be considered as a revenue reduction, and which expenses must be considered as a marketing expense. Marketing and sales expenditures clearly receive close scrutiny by both auditors and regulators.

Other speakers and topics include:
-- "Industry Update from GMA and FMI" with Marjorie DePuy of GMA and Patrick Walsh of FMI.
-- "Coupons: Disposable Tactic or Indispensable Tool?" by Mathew Tilley, Director of Marketing, CMS, Inc.
