Wis. Grocers Honor Mitch Eveland with Community Service Award
Mitch Eveland, owner of Capitol Centre Market in Madison, Wis., and Lake Mills Market in Lake Mills, Wis., has received the 2016 Community Service Award from Wisconsin Grocers Association (WGA).
Eveland, who has been in the grocery business for 45 years, was nominated by Dave Ryman, of wholesaler Certco, for a number of programs initiated in his stores, including Round Up and Share, which has raised nearly $200,000 for 75 charities, and Thanksgiving grocery donations to 200 residents in senior apartments at Capitol Centre.
WGA has given the award for nine years and Eveland is one of five grocers to receive it.
“This award is made to recognize grocers at all levels of the business that play an outstanding role in the betterment of their community,” said Brandon Scholz, president/CEO of Madison-based WGA. Award recipients are nominated by WGA members and chosen by the association's board of directors.
Eveland previously received the 2013 Excellence in Operations award from WGA and was featured in the October 2014 issue of Progressive Grocer Independent. He will formally accept the award during the WGA Innovation Expo on Oct. 12 at the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Milwaukee.
