Winn-Dixie Is Three-Time NFRA Golden Penguin Winner
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. has won its third consecutive Golden Penguin Award, given by the National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) in recognition of the promotional efforts of the frozen food industry during March National Frozen Food Month, the organization has announced.
Winn-Dixie and Nestle USA, another three-time winner, will each receive a specially designed amber penguin statuette commemorating three Golden Penguin awards in a row in the same category, Winn-Dixie in the Retail Corporate Chain or Division (Over 50 Stores) category and Nestle USA in the Retail Manufacturer category.
"Winn-Dixie has shown tremendous support of March National Frozen Food Month these last three years," Julie Henderson, v.p. communications of the NFRA, told Progressive Grocer. "They've incorporated all the elements that make a successful promotion -- advertising, displays, special events, and consumer education, to name a few. And they have executed the promotion in creative ways, reaching their customers and resulting in positive sales.
"We always have outstanding support [from] the retail community, as well as the manufacturers and sales agents who help get the promotion into the stores," Henderson continued. "It's at the retail level that we can have the most impact with consumers -- changing their perception of frozen foods and increasing sales."
NFRA announced 32 Golden Penguin winners in 17 retail and foodservice categories and 41 Silver Penguin winners in 15 categories out of hundreds of entries from across the United States. Other 2004 Golden Penguin retailer recipients include Harris Teeter, Cub Foods, Albertsons, and Fry's.
The 21st annual Golden Penguins awards reception and banquet will be held at the 2004 National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Convention Oct. 26 in Washington, D.C. Silver Penguins are usually awarded locally at appropriate frozen food association meetings.
Golden Penguins will additionally be awarded for merchandising excellence during June Dairy Month and the June/July Summer Favorites Ice Cream & Novelties display contest. For more information on any of the Golden Penguin Competitions, contact NFRA at (717) 657-6801.
