Winn-Dixie Re-ups with NFL's Jaguars in Food Drive
Winn-Dixie joined the Jacksonville Jaguars for the team's 14th annual food drive on Tuesday, by donating a truckload of 32,000 pounds of food, which will go to restock Second Harvest Food Bank's shelves, said the Jaguars organization.
The grocer's 32,000 pound-donation will allow Second Harvest to provide 24,000 meals.
The four-week drive was officially launched at Winn-Dixie's store on Baymeadows and SR 9A in Jacksonville. Players on the NFL team and members of The ROAR, the team's cheerleaders, signed autographs and posed for photos at the launch.
The Jaguars organization said football fans are encouraged to bring nonperishable items and cash donations to the game, when the Jaguars host the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 23.
The grocer said customers can donate nonperishable items at any of its 44 stores on Florida's First Coast from Oct. 21 through Nov. 17. Florida's First Coast is a seven county area including Baker, Clay, Duval, St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam, and Nassau.
