Winn-Dixie Creates V.P. Position to Oversee Strategic Initiatives

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. has charged one of its regional v.p.'s, Brad Spooner, with directing the implementation of its strategic initiatives. In this newly created position, Spooner will oversee the company's mission to improve its competitive position and operational performance. He'll report directly to Winn-Dixie president and c.e.o. Frank Lazaran.

Spooner joined Winn-Dixie in November 2002 as senior director of operations after spending 20 years with Randalls Food Markets, Inc., now part of Safeway, Inc.

"Our strategic initiatives are vital to our success," said Lazaran in a statement. "I am confident in Brad's ability to drive these initiatives and move us forward in our efforts to improve Winn-Dixie's competitive positioning."

Winn-Dixie also tapped Chuck Newsom, a former Eckerd executive, to take on Spooner's previous role as v.p. for the Central Region, which includes parts of Florida, Alabama, and Georgia.

Newsom was most recently with the Eckerd Corp. in New York, where he was a senior group v.p., responsible for 458 stores. Before Eckerd, he held the position of s.v.p. for supermarket chain Pueblo International, LLC in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Newsom has also held positions with Shop Rite, the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., Riser Foods, and the Kroger Co.
