Wild Oats Signs for 3-Year POS Maintenance Service

BOULDER, Colo. -- Natural and organic foods retailer Wild Oats Markets, Inc. yesterday entered into an on-site maintenance and support agreement for its POS technology in 113 stores.

The service, called Retainer Plus, is from retail technology vendor Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc., Frisco, Texas. Fujitsu said it developed the service to remove low-value activities -- such as swapping out hard drives -- and their associated costs from traditional, insurance-driven service delivery models, in which the service is paid for ahead of time. Basic support tasks are handled at the store level, avoiding the cost of having a service technician visit the store.

"The Retainer Plus model reduces calls and offers transparency throughout the service process," said Jon Payne, v.p. of information systems at Wild Oats. "The Fujitsu program will cut maintenance costs across all of our stores, extend the life of our technology investments, and allow us to focus our efforts on serving our customers."

Wild Oats operates 113 natural foods stores in 24 states and British Columbia, Canada. The company's banners include, Wild Oats Natural Marketplace, Henry's Farmers Market, Sun Harvest, and Capers Community Markets.
