Wild Oats Donates $10,000 to Friends of the Peak
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Natural and organic foods retailer Wild Oats Markets Inc. today announced it will donate $10,000 to Friends of the Peak to fund directional signage for the Ring the Peak Trail system, which will eventually connect existing trails on Pikes Peak in a contiguous ring.
The official grand opening of the store at 3180 New Center Point in Colorado Springs, which is the first new Wild Oats store to open in Colorado Springs since 1992, was scheduled to take place this morning at 8:45 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The grand opening celebration will kick off several weeks of storewide samples, community support programs and various health-related store events.
"As the most visited mountain in North America, the wear and tear on Pikes Peak can be severe in highly used areas," said Mary Burger, president, Friends of the Peak. "The Wild Oats signage project will encourage hikers to stay on trails and therefore help preserve the natural vegetation. It will also promote a fit lifestyle by providing directional information for citizens unfamiliar with the trails. We are pleased with Wild Oats' donation as it will allow us to connect local residents with our natural resources to maintain a healthy lifestyle."
As part of the company's mission to promote health and well-being among customers, employees, local communities, and the environment, Wild Oats is providing funding for Friends of the Peak to purchase and help install trailhead and directional signs on the 54 mile Ring the Peak Trail.
