Whole Foods to Donate Five Percent of Global Sales to Animal Welfare

AUSTIN, Texas -- Whole Foods Market will donate five percent of its global sales next Tuesday as seed money to establish its Animal Compassion Foundation.

Shoppers making purchases on Jan. 25 at all 167 Whole Foods Market stores in the U.S. and Canada, Harry's Farmers Market stores in the Atlanta area, and Fresh & Wild stores in the U.K., will help in contributing funds to support the well being, safety, and physical comfort of farm animals.

As an independent, non-profit organization with its own board of directors, the Animal
Compassion Foundation will provide education and research services to assist and inspire ranchers and meat producers around the world to achieve a higher standard of animal welfare excellence while still maintaining economic viability.

The Foundation will create an exchange of best practices for meat producers throughout the world to learn about animal husbandry techniques that fully support the animal's physical needs, natural behaviors, and well being.
